Speculation over where the 26-year-old will be plying his trade next season is rife again this summer, with Manchester United
and Chelsea
reported to have reignited their interest in the Croatian.
The sacking of Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane has cast further doubt over his Spurs future and it remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy will be able to withstand a second summer of interest in the midfield superstar.
Real Madrid
are the latest club to be linked to Modric,
with coach Jose Mourinho
rumoured to be a long-time admirer.
The versatile midfielder’s close friend and ex-Croatia
colleague Bilic claims the Spurs man is keen on joining the Primera Liga champions and is getting closer to a move.
“I’m very good friends with Modric,” the Sporting Gijon
striker was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
“He wants to play in the Spanish league. He loves the Premier League but he wants to play in Spain. He’s very close to agreeing a move.”
Also in news, Tottenham target Jan Vertonghen’s move is still on the cards according to the players agent.
“Nothing has changed at all. He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager,” Nakhli said.
“Managers come and go. Of course Jan is sorry that Harry Redknapp
is no longer there but he is going for the club.
“We have a good relationship with Daniel Levy.
He wants the deal to happen and there is a good atmosphere (between us).
“I don’t know when it will happen but the deal is close, very close.”
