Swindon Town boss Paolo Di Canio has demanded an apology from his goalkeeper Wes Foderingham for his lack of professionalism after being substituted 21 minutes into the Robins 4-1 defeat to Preston North End yesterday.

A clumsy mistake from Foderingham led to Preston’s Akpo Sodje opening the scoring on five minutes which was quickly followed by a goal from Nicky Wroe to double Preston’s lead.

Di Canio decided he had seen enough and forced his goalkeeper off, needless to say Foderingham didn’t take it kindly.

After exchanging a few heated words with his manager Foderingham then expressed his anger towards a water bottle by kicking it onto the pitch and storming off out of sight.

Di Canio told Sky Sports News in a post match interview that he was fuming with the player’s reaction and demands that he apologises to the fans or risk never playing for Swindon again.

He went on to add that Foderingham’s performance in Swindon’s giant killing of Stoke in the Capital One Cup last Tuesday was also shocking and that the team had to cover for his mistakes.

Remember this is not the first time that Di Canio has had a confrontation with one of his players. Last season the Italian had a scuffle in a tunnel with striker Leon Clarke following a defeat to Southampton in the Carling Cup. See below:

As gifted and entertaining Di Canio was when he was a player he was not a saint himself. In 1998 he pushed referee Paul Alcock to the ground after receiving a red card against Arsenal.

And who could ever forgot the unbelievable match for West Ham against Bradford City where he demanded to be substituted.

At the time the Hammers were losing 4-2 and after the referee waved away three blatant penalty decisions against Di Canio he decided he didn’t want to play anymore.

He instructed to West Ham boss Harry Redknapp to take him off and squatted down in front of the dugout like a kid having a tantrum in Tesco.

Thankfully he was persuaded to stay on and inspired West Ham to a dramatic 5-4 victory.
