It’s fair to say that Manchester United have been far from convincing this season, getting knocked out of the Champions League, the Europa League, the FA cup and the League cup, but one thing that can save their season is their know how to win championships.
They have that knack of winning games when they aren’t playing well, and they have managed to keep within touching distance of noisy neighbours Manchester City who have lead the way at the top of the table for most of the campaign. Sir Alex Ferguson’s sides resilience has allowed them to overhaul City in recent weeks as Mancini’s men lost away to Swansea, while United beat West Brom to go top, followed by the convincing 5-0 win at Wolves to increase that lead to 4 points.
City looked like they had the title in the bag before the turn of the year as they convincingly breezed past any opposition put in front of them with their form typified by the 6-1 win at Old Trafford of course in October. Now it seems, while United typically look like falling into their stride at the business end of the season, City might just be feeling the pressure!
They head into tomorrow’s huge game with Chelsea at the Etihad stadium needing all 3 points to close the gap on United with their game in hand. City might even be given the boost of having Carlos Tevez on the bench for them, which is quite something after the season he has had.
The football world has had the derby meeting at the Etihad Stadium on Monday 30th April pinpointed since the start of the season as the decisive fixture in determining the destination of the title! Us guys at ThePlayersNet love to get to go to as many live games as we can but if we could get our hands on any Premier League Tickets for this season, the Manchester Derby is definitely the game that we would most want to be at!
It is certainly building up to be an absolute classic, helped by the fact that Mancini has boldly insisted that his team will regain the lead at the top of the table and go onto win the league.
Mancini said: “We will win the title, we will win. We will do everything to win the title. We need to think positive, always.”
“Until now we have had a fantastic Premier League, we need to continue like this.”
“It is better to stay on the top – always – but I said a month ago it could be that we will go into the second position. This can happen.”
“We had difficult fixtures, different from United, but it has not changed. We have everything in our hands. There is one game difference – potentially we are one point behind.”
“Maybe if we win the next two games we go two points up. We need to go our way, we can’t think about United.”
It is great fighting talk from Mancini ahead of some huge fixtures for his team, and we cant wait for that derby at the end of April! Sadly we won’t be going to this one, but if you are looking to grab some tickets, we use TicketBis which is a great site to get hold of premier league and European tickets online!
