Petrov appeared at the clubs training ground where he greeted the players on their first day back at work.
The Bulgarian was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March and has had to suspend his career to receive treatment.
A true professional and outstanding player Petrov has achieved great success in his career so far. He jumped onto our radars when he joined Celtic in 1999 where he would go on to win 4 SPL titles, 2 Scottish Cups, 2 Scottish League Cups and a UEFA Cup runners-up medal.
He joined Villa in 2006 when he was signed by former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill for £6.5m and was made club captain in 2009.
