Roy Hodgson will be making plans for how he want’s his England team to line up at this summers Euro 2012 championships in Poland and Ukraine, and Gary Neville has shown us his thoughts on how England need to play…
Neville has been a breath of fresh air since taking up the role with Sky Sports at the beginning of the season. Such was his passion and commitment on the pitch for Manchester United, it might have surprised some fans at how balanced and articulate he is with his views in the studio. But this video is an example of the experience and incredible knowledge that Neville has of the game and in particular the England set up.
Fabio Capello received huge criticism for how he lined up his England team in a 4-4-2 formation at the 2010 world cup, despite fans urging him to play 4-3-3. Roy Hodgson is also a fan of the 4-4-2 system, but speaking from his own experience and giving us a great insight into the game, Neville tells us where England have gone wrong in the past and how they need to line up this summer. He points out that by adopting a more fluid ‘continental’ system, and using the personnel who can play in that style, England will be able to compete with the top European teams throughout the tournament. It will be interesting to see if Hodgson will be thinking along the same lines!
