Following the shock departure of Harry Redknapp, Barcelona have reportedly increased their interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s prize asset Gareth Bale.

Bale has been linked to Barca for the last couple of seasons now and it is one of those that rumours that just wont go away. But with Redknapp leaving the Lane, who knows how this will affect Bales thinking.

Early reports indicate that the Spanish Giants are to look towards a deal with the London Club after the players Agent Johnathan Barnett insisted the player was unhappy with the clubs lack of Champions League football in the coming 2012-13 Season, although the Catalan Club could be prized out by Spurs £40m value for the Welsh International.

Bale recently signed a new long term contract but has not ruled himself out of a future move to the continent, but with Spurs valuation so high it seems the price may be just too much for the Spanish Club.

Speaking to a Catalan-based Sport Newspaper Barnett said

“I think it’s too expensive for the club, To my knowledge, the club [Barcelona] has not made any offer for him.

“If interested, they would have to put money on the table and then start talking. But it seems that the club is working on the signing of Jordi Alba, a cheaper option.”

“Yes, it is clear that this is a problem,” said Barnett in regards to the valuation

“The big European clubs already know how much it would take to do the operation and therefore if you are interested you know what kind of offer has to be put on the table.”

Cardiff born Bale started his career with Southampton until his £10m move to Tottenham in 2007 where he has become a fan’s favourite and has established himself as one of the most exciting wingers in Europe.
