What a night it was in the Allianz Arena as Roberto Di Matteo’s Chelsea team lifted the Champions League trophy for the first time in the clubs history after a nail biting penalty shootout.
The victory was that much sweeter for Chelsea who of course won Bayern in their own back yard.
It was a sensational night for the Blues as Drogba equalised in the dying moments of the game to take the tie into extra time. Drogba then gave away a penalty but former Chelsea star Arjen Robben couldn’t convert, and so it was left down to a good old penalty shootout where Drogba scored the winning spot kick!
It was a great night of drama, and although Chelsea might not play the most attractive football in Europe, they certainly have the knack of grinding out victories. Although Bayern will find themselves unfortunate not to win the game, you have to think that whoever beats Barcelona deserves to win the final, and Chelsea did just that!
Fair play to them and congratulations to the whole club. It will be interesting to see what the victory means for Roberto Di Matteo. Surely an FA cup and Champions League double should land him the job full time?
